Music has always been about words to me. I do not appreciate the symphony. Instrumentals tend to bore me. After a song or two, all bluegrass sounds the same. Heavy metal holds no interest.
It is the lyrics that get to me. Words that touch me or make me feel something. I love to sing along to songs I sang along to when I was 10. Anybody remember Sylvia? As I listen to particular songs on the radio I automatically want to hear the next song on that cd.
Unfortunately I don't have a pretty voice. Once I was told I needed to sing on key. I don't even know what that means, let alone how to get there.
But I do have a good memory and a place in my brain for lyrics that mean something to me. The following lyrics by Ginny Owens have come to mind at certain points in my life for the past 8 years or so. I like to especially belt out the chorus when I am alone in my car. It is a beautiful song and I hope you enjoy the message.
The pathway is broken
And the signs are unclear
And I don't know the reason why You brought me here
But just because You love me the way that You do
I'm gonna walk through the valley If You want me to
Chorus: Cause I'm not who I was
When I took my first step
And I'm clinging to the promise
You're not through with me yet
so if all of these trials bring me closer to you
Then I will walk through the fire
If You want me to
It may not be the way I would have chosen
When you lead me through a world that's not my home
But You never said it would be easy
You only said I'd never go alone
So when the whole world turns against me
And I'm all by myself
And I can't hear You answer my cries for help
I'll remember the suffering Your love put You through
And I go through the valley If You want me to
What song means something to you?
