Charity!

I never updated about our birthday party. Many of you already know, but we were successful! Instead of gifts, I asked friends of my #1 and #2 to bring new pajamas to be donated to the local women's shelter. And did they! We donated over 30 pair of pajamas and pieces of women's clothing. As an after thought I did let #1 and #2 pick out a pair of pjs to keep. Many people brought jammies in just their size and we were still able to donate so many.
I was prepared to defend this decision to my children. And we talked it up big time before the party day. I can honestly say there were no words of complaint when they didn't get to open any birthday presents from their friends.
Before you think me an ogre - they DID get gifts from their family. Nonnie, Papa, Grammy, Poppy, Aunt Bird, Cousin Lauren, Justin, Aunt Ag.......yes, we did receive presents.
And someone, somewhere has new pajamas during a particular hard time in their life.
We are blessed!

Awesome idea! Way to go friends! I think this year for my 2, we are going to do something for Buckner and/or APO in honor of their birthdays. And yes, kids always get plenty of gifts from others! Super that you let them pick a pair to keep!

At least take a picture of them in the new pajamas that they chose so we can see!

Great idea and a great lesson not only for your kids but for all of us. Your kids handled it so unselfishly...I could learn a lesson from them.
