Am I a country girl?

Nah, I doubt it!

However, I did spend a wonderful day with one of my best friends and her husband and my family in the country on Saturday. We picked vegetables, canned pickles, fed ducks and catfish and had a great time, despite the heat!

I love the idea of a garden and all those fresh veggies so readily available. I love how country neighbors trade tomatoes for pickles and garlic for corn. I love washing the dirt off the potatoes then cutting them up to roast. I do love all of it.

I also know how hard my friend and her husband work and I know my own limitations. I am lazy. I do just about what is required of me and often little else. I am raising 3 babies and working hard at being a deliberate, godly parent. That is enough of an energy expenditure for me at this point in my life. Perhaps in a future season I will get my hands dirty in the soil and make homemade zucchini bread. Today I am happy enough slicing fresh summer squash to keep in my freezer. God's world is so grand. I am thankful to be able to witness so many aspects of it.

PS.....Have you ever canned anything?

I'm so glad y'all had a good time! And no, I don't know the first thing about canning. I'm with you about liking the idea of gardening, but I'm just not able to actually exert enough energy to make it happen at this point in my life either!

I have canned lots of stuff and froze lots of stuff from your grandma and grandpa's garden and your great grandpa's garden. Oh how I wish they still had those big gardens. I've made chili sauce, spaggi sauce, pickles, pickle relish, pears, peaches, plums. and jelly. I made salsa and chili sauce last year. Love those pickled beets too. love and hugs aunt chris

Never canned here. My grandmother did. I never learned. Wish I had some of her fruit preserves!
Have friends that garden- I admire them. Maybe someday.
